Gender equality · Women’s empowerment
Participation, dignity and opportunity
Gender equality is a priority across CADEF Cameroon’s work with children, women and communities.
For women and girls, opportunities to learn, earn and participate can be shaped by responsibilities at home, access to services and expectations in their communities. CADEF’s programme approach brings these barriers into focus, with attention to dignity, inclusion and practical support.
Removing barriers to participation
CADEF’s approach aims to address barriers to women’s and girls’ participation in household, community and economic life.
Programme planning considers caregiving responsibilities, access to opportunities and the support women need to participate.
Safe and inclusive learning
For girls, safe learning environments, suitable hygiene facilities and inclusive teaching are important considerations. CADEF’s education and wellbeing work seeks to respond to these barriers.
Skills, livelihoods and voice
Livelihoods and women’s empowerment are areas of programme focus. The aim is to help women build skills, access opportunities and participate in decisions affecting their lives.
Community engagement provides space to discuss gender roles and practical barriers respectfully.
CADEF aims to strengthen women’s participation in community decision-making, recognising their voice as an important part of inclusive local development.
Gender across our programmes
CADEF seeks to integrate gender considerations across education, health, protection and livelihoods programming.
The programme focus includes women and girls in low-income and hard-to-reach communities in Cameroon.
Programme priorities
Priority areas guide programme planning and partnership discussions:
- Addressing women’s vulnerabilities in areas such as health, nutrition, and sanitation
- Increasing self-determination for women through initiatives that focus on digital connectivity and adoption, skills development, and economic empowerment
- Expanding leadership opportunities for women
- Influencing norms and reducing barriers to promote women’s full participation in society
Monitoring and community feedback help assess delivery and identify areas for improvement.
