Programme overview
CADEF supports communities affected by conflict, flooding and other emergencies through local engagement, needs assessment, mobilisation and coordinated response support. Children’s safety and the dignity of affected households guide this work.
Why it matters in Cameroon
Emergencies can interrupt learning, access to services and household livelihoods while increasing protection risks. A locally informed response helps partners understand the needs of children, adolescent girls and families, including those in hard-to-reach settings.
What CADEF does
- Engage community leaders and affected households to understand needs and organise support.
- Support household enumeration, beneficiary verification and community mobilisation.
- Coordinate warehouse, packaging and distribution support with response partners.
- Connect emergency health, WASH, education and protection work with preparedness, learning and recovery priorities.
Programme background and context
Emergencies can interrupt children’s learning, weaken household livelihoods and increase protection risks. CADEF’s humanitarian approach starts with local knowledge, community engagement and coordinated support that protects dignity and responds to documented needs.
In Cameroon, conflict, displacement, floods and disease outbreaks can create overlapping needs. Children, adolescent girls and households in hard-to-reach areas require support that connects immediate assistance with protection, recovery and preparedness.
- 2026 humanitarian needs: UNICEF estimates that 2.9 million people, including 1.5 million children, need humanitarian assistance in Cameroon, with the highest needs in the Far North, North-West and South-West.
CADEF contributes community access, mobilisation, enumeration, beneficiary verification and warehouse and distribution support alongside response partners. The 2023 and 2026 Limbe responses bring together local engagement and partner expertise, with lessons that inform accountable future response.
