CADEF Cameroon · Programme pillar
Healthy children. Safe water. Community wellbeing.
Programme overview
CADEF connects health and nutrition awareness with water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and community wellbeing. The approach supports practical information, local engagement and coordination with qualified health and response partners.
Why it matters in Cameroon
Access to healthcare, nutrition, safe water, sanitation and hygiene is connected to children’s learning and family wellbeing. Rural and hard-to-reach communities, and households affected by emergencies, may face additional barriers to information, facilities and services.
What CADEF does
- Support community awareness on health, immunisation, nutrition and hygiene.
- Work with health districts and relevant partners to connect communities with appropriate services.
- Promote safe drinking water, household hygiene and community WASH practices.
- Support mobilisation, needs assessment and coordinated WASH or health-response activities during emergencies.

Programme background and context
Health, nutrition, safe water and hygiene are interconnected foundations of children’s wellbeing. CADEF’s community approach combines practical awareness, local mobilisation and coordination with qualified health and response partners.
Families can face overlapping barriers to healthcare, nutritious food, safe drinking water and sanitation. Emergencies add pressure by damaging facilities, disrupting livelihoods and making services harder to reach. Community engagement helps partners understand these needs and organise appropriate support.
- 2026 humanitarian needs: UNICEF identifies 1.4 million people needing health services and 1.6 million needing WASH support in crisis-affected regions.
- Nutrition update, 17 July 2026: a UN/WFP report describes nearly 400,000 children aged 6–59 months facing, or expected to face, acute malnutrition in Cameroon.
These needs underpin CADEF’s health and nutrition awareness, safe-water and hygiene work, and response mobilisation. Clinical services remain the responsibility of qualified providers; project records explain CADEF’s contribution and each partner’s role.
