Community Education: Supporting Children in Underserved Areas

Supporting education in underserved communities

School costs, competing household responsibilities and unequal opportunities for girls can make access to learning difficult. CADEF’s community education approach brings children and caregivers into dialogue about these barriers and the support children need.

CADEF’s approach includes dialogue with children and caregivers about education, inclusion and the challenges families face. The aim is to encourage participation in learning without blaming families for the barriers they encounter.

School and community engagement

School visits and engaging sessions with children formed part of this community education work. The sessions focused on empathy, respect and awareness of unequal access to opportunities.

Children are encouraged to recognise one another’s strengths and consider how they can contribute positively to their communities.

Building opportunities through community participation

Community participation helps education support respond to the challenges families face. Partnerships can strengthen inclusive learning and create space for children, caregivers and schools to work together towards greater opportunity.
