Community assessment · Hygiene awareness · Limbe
When flooding and landslides affected communities in Limbe in 2023, understanding household needs was an essential first step in organising support. In August, CADEF Cameroon joined South West WASH Cluster partners, with support from UNICEF, to assess affected neighbourhoods and share practical hygiene information with families.

Listening to households before responding
Teams visited Clacks Quarter, Livanda, Upper Mawoh and Lower Mawoh to assess the needs of affected households and families. These visits connected local knowledge with the wider WASH response, bringing attention to conditions in neighbourhoods affected by the disaster.
Bringing practical prevention to families
Alongside the assessments, community awareness activities covered cholera prevention, hygiene and household water treatment. CADEF’s door-to-door engagement brought practical prevention information to families in their own surroundings, complementing the wider response to the floods.

From local understanding to coordinated support
CADEF’s local engagement helped response teams understand household conditions and reach families with prevention information. Assessment and awareness formed part of a wider response that later included essential WASH supplies. The November 2023 relief story follows that distribution and the households it reached.
