CADEF Cameroon · Programme pillar
Climate awareness. Local leadership. Resilient communities.
Programme overview
CADEF’s programme priorities connect environmental education and climate action with inclusive, resilient livelihoods. Children, young people, girls and women should have opportunities to understand environmental risks and participate in decisions affecting their communities.
Why it matters in Cameroon
Flooding and other environmental pressures can disrupt homes, learning, water access and livelihoods. The effects can intersect with gender inequality and protection concerns, making community participation and practical preparedness important.
What CADEF does
- Support children and young people to understand environmental change and its effects.
- Encourage girls’ and women’s participation and leadership in local climate action.
- Connect education, environmental responsibility and practical adaptation priorities.
- Advocate for inclusive livelihood opportunities and community-informed decisions.
Programme background and context
Environmental conditions shape children’s wellbeing and the livelihoods of the communities around them. CADEF connects environmental education, climate awareness and inclusive livelihood priorities with opportunities for young people, girls and women to participate in local action.
Flooding, coastal pressures, drought and extreme heat can affect homes, water sources, learning, health and livelihoods. Families with fewer resources may have less capacity to prepare, adapt or recover, so environmental work needs to consider social inclusion and practical community needs.
- World Bank assessment published 21 February 2025: approximately 9% of Cameroon’s population lives in drought-prone areas, and 8% of GDP is exposed to climate-related risks.
CADEF’s programme priorities include environmental learning, girls’ and women’s leadership, inclusive economic opportunities and community-informed resilience. Related humanitarian records provide practical learning on community mobilisation and response to floods and landslides.
